Study Abroad! 04/29/2008

So, some of you already know this... but I've been seriously considering studying abroad in Sweden during Winter and Spring quarters of 2009.  Yet, I have been struggling in deciding which school and what program I want to enroll in.  I've been seriously considering Stockholm, Göteborg, Linköping, and Uppsala for the past few months, and have swayed back and forth alot.  But, now I am happy to let you all know that I have chosen!

I plan to take a series of courses called "Scandinavian Studies: Cultural and Social Perspectives" at Gothenburg University!!!

"The course adresses foreign students with the aim of enlarging their knowledge of Scandinavian society from historical, cultural, and social perspectives.  It gives an introduction to the development of Scandinavian society from a European point of view and a broad orientation of everyday life in Sweden from the time of the industrial revolution to the present.  With the focus on the city of Göteborg and its transformation, cultural and social changes concerning modes of belonging and social life in the shade of segregation, marginality and ethnic differentiation will be discussed.  The course also gives an orientation in several fields of the Swedish youth culture research that has received internationally attention, as well as Scandinavian contributions to the study of different aspects of popular culture."

I have looked into what is involved in this course and I am so excited!  It really seems like the perfect plan for me and will provide me some great insights for my linguistics major.  I've always wanted to travel to Europe and now I think I will have the chance to do so!

I am so happy with the way things are going in my life right now, everything finally seems to be adding up.  Now, all I need to do is get a passport and deal with all of the paperwork involved with getting into this exchange program.  Yes, that and finding housing for fall quarter in the U-District before I leave.

Thank you for reading!
